Looking back to some of the most significant moments of the 34th Panhellenic Pulmonology Congress, which took place from December 17 to 22, 2025, at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens, welcoming more than 1,000 participants from across Greece.

The Congress opened with a dynamic and multifaceted Opening Ceremony, attended by distinguished figures from academia and public life. A particular honor was the presence of the President of the European Respiratory Society, Professor Joanna Chorostowska-Wynimko, who delivered a welcoming address and was presented with an honorary award by the Congress President, Professor Stelios Loukides.

The ceremony was also honored by the attendance of the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who was formally introduced by Emeritus Professor Georgios Veltsos. The Opening Ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and scholarships to scientific works distinguished for their innovation and contribution to research and the advancement of Pulmonology.

Over the course of five days, the Congress featured a high-level scientific program, including keynote lectures, round-table discussions, satellite symposia, oral and poster presentations, as well as educational workshops. These activities fostered meaningful scientific exchange and supported the continuing education of the pulmonology community.

The Closing Ceremony highlighted the human and social dimension of the Congress. A particularly moving speech was delivered by Mr. Vangelis Avgoulas, who addressed the daily realities faced by people with disabilities—especially individuals with visual impairments—conveying a powerful message of empathy and inclusion. In addition, Professor Despina Papakosta was honored for her scientific achievements and her long-standing contribution to the pulmonology community.

The Congress concluded having left a strong scientific, institutional, and human legacy.
