From January 28-30, Porto became a vibrant hub of innovation, learning, and collaboration for global event professionals at the IAPCO EDGE Seminar! AFEA Congress was honored to participate in this inspiring event, with our CEO Sissi Lignou, President-Elect of IAPCO, attending as a member of the Faculty. Our colleague, Georgia Tsiampoula, also joined as an attendee, representing our team.
Over the three dynamic days, AFEA Congress engaged in meaningful discussions on communication skills, collaborative bidding, global trends in the meetings industry, strategic planning, leadership, and building connections with peers from around the world.
One of the most impactful moments of the seminar was a hands-on project, where participants designed pouffes made from recycled materials. These were later crafted by CAIS artisans—individuals who have experienced homelessness—and donated to a children’s cancer ward in Porto. This initiative was a true testament to how the events industry can create positive, lasting change.
The seminar featured a series of inspiring sessions, offering valuable insights and skills. Nicola McGrane led a compelling session on "Communication Skills and the Power of Listening," while Mathias Posch delivered a thought-provoking talk on Mental Health & Self-Care, highlighting the importance of well-being in our demanding industry.
Representing the young leaders of IAPCO, Ellen Franck provided fresh perspectives on financial planning with her presentation on Budgeting. Ana Sa energized the group with a performance on Negotiation Skills, and Sissi Lignou shared her expertise on Bidding & Sustainability. In addition, Sissi and Nicola McGrane co-hosted an insightful session on Leadership, followed by an engaging discussion on Personalized Learning, encouraging participants to reflect on key takeaways and how to apply them in their professional journeys.
